Congratulations and many thanks to these newly-elected officers
of the volunteer Board of Directors at the Chesapeake Arboretum:
President = Jeff Cavanaugh
Vice President = Linwood Nelms
Secretary = Michelli Booker
Treasurer = Carin Schneller-Carr
Assistant Treasurer = Andy Merchant

We’ll be at the Virginia Flower & Garden Expo next weekend
and WE NEED YOUR HELP! Our booth needs friendly,
smiling faces to greet the hundreds of Expo attendees, distribute
literature about Friends of the Arboretum membership and in
general spread the word about what you love about the Chesapeake
Arboretum. Booth volunteers also get freebie admission
to the entire show (tickets are $10 this year), but WE MUST GIVE YOUR
NAME TO THE SHOW ORGANIZERS IN ADVANCE! If you can volunteer,
reply to this e-mail no later than Wednesday, January 18, indicating
your availability for these shifts:
Fri. Jan. 20 - 9:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
1:00 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.
3:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Sat. Jan. 21 - 9:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
1:00 p.m. – 3:45 p.m.
3:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Sun. Jan. 22 - 9:45 a.m. – 1:45 p.m.
1:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
THANKS! By the way, for the first time ever, our booth (and other
non-vendor area special interest groups’ booths) will be INSIDE
the actual exhibit hall instead of outside in the lobby as in year past.
Our next KIDS’ DAY is January 21st! Our new educational programming in
collaboration with the Virginia Museum of Natural History is SO exciting!
This photo of instructor Susan Walton is from the November 2011 program “Squirrels,
Trees and Other Nutty Things”.

January 21st topic = “Walking in the Winter Wonder Woods” — space is limited!

Look for 2012 MEMBERSHIP INFO in your snail mailboxes later this month!
If you prefer to take care of your renewal now, we FINALLY have online membership payment capability thanks to our good friend Amelia B. ! If you’re interested in VOLUNTEERING FOR THE 2012 MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN, meet with us at the Homestead Farmhouse at noon on Friday January 13 for a working (chili) lunch. Reply to this e-mail to RSVP so we’ll be sure to have enough chili.

We note with sadness that this week marks the one-year anniversary of the death
of our former President, area environmental activist Jean Marie Eagler.
She would be VERY PROUD of the work our volunteers have managed to perform in the past year,
especially the replacement of Bridge A at the southern end of our trails system. This project
spearheaded by Phil Johnson was made possible in large part by the donation of time and materials by Dominion Virgina Power. We are grateful to all involved!

Great news! So proud of the work you do for Chesapeake and the community.
